Events & Traditions

The Falkland Islands host a range of cultural and community events that bring people together. Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Christmas Sports Weekend – A major local event held over the 26th and 27th of December with horse racing and foot events for children and adults alike.
  • Events at the Historic Dockyard Museum – Regular exhibitions and talks on the Islands’ history and heritage.
  • Theatre & Performances – The Falkland Islands Operatic & Dramatic Association (FIODA) puts on several productions each year, from musicals to comedies and dramas.

Other Recreational Activities

If you want to learn more about local history and culture, the Historic Dockyard Museum in Stanley is a must-visit, with exhibits on maritime history, social life, and the Islands’ connections to Antarctica. There are also special events throughout the year, such as Museum at night events and Christmas lights events.

For more relaxed socialising the Islands have several friendly pubs and cafés where you can enjoy good company and a warm welcome. The Stanley Leisure Centre also offers fitness classes and recreational activities if you want to stay active and meet new people.
