Interested in contributing to the community in a meaningful way?

Volunteering is a great way to get involved and make new connections. There are various volunteering groups. Here are some to consider:

Emergency & Public Safety Volunteering

Falkland Islands Fire & Rescue Service – The fire brigade has space for volunteers to train as retained firefighters, helping with fire safety, emergency response and public awareness initiatives. It’s a physically demanding but respected role that’s vital to the community.

Falkland Islands Defence Force (FIDF) – The Islands’ military reserve force is made up of local volunteers who receive professional training in defence and emergency response. Members take part in search and rescue operations, marksmanship and military exercises, providing an essential service to national security.

Conservation

Falklands Conservation – If you love nature and would like to help protect this incredible environment and unique wildlife you could join this fantastic organisation and get involved in activities such as wildlife surveys and research projects, beach clean-ups and habitat restoration as well as education and outreach programs.

Community & Social Support

The Community Trust – helping individuals in financial hardship.

Cancer Support & Awareness Trust – offering emotional and practical support to those affected by cancer.

Southern Heartbeat, a project ensuring 24-hour access to defibrillators across the Islands and providing free CPR training

Helping at Events & Local Groups

Volunteering doesn’t have to mean a long-term commitment—you can also lend a helping hand at community events, such as fundraisers, theatre productions or sports competitions. Groups like the Falkland Islands Operatic & Dramatic Association (FIODA) and local sports clubs often need volunteers for event organisation, coaching and behind-the-scenes support.
