  • Poppy Ball – A formal event to raise funds for the Royal British Legion with dining and entertainment.
  • Speed Shear Competition and Shearing Competition (December) – Get up close to sheep shearing at Rose Bar and FIDF Hall.

  • Mid-winter swim – A charity event held on or around mid-winter where crowds race into the freezing South Atlantic for as quick a dip as they can stand.
  • Peat Cutting Monday – A public holiday traditionally marking the start of the peat-cutting season. Although not observed through organised events, it’s still a favourite occasion for many to work on their garden ready for the growing season.
